Abstract

In this lecture possible models for the motion of an elevator are explored. We will discuss the following three tasks:
1.    Students are given a model that represents the position of the elevator. They are asked to evaluate its usefulness and identify the problems of the given model so that they can create a better model.
2.    Students are asked to model the movement of the elevator. No initial model or data are given.
3.    Students take a video of the movement of the elevator and use Tracker video analysis and GeoGebra to model the motion of the elevator.
We discuss student’s answers to find out if technology is used in a significant way that enhances the development of the task.
